BIOGRAPHY

Born in Venezuela / Canadian - My name is Ymilse. I grew up in the rainforest in the South of Venezuela near the Amazon. During my childhood, I was exposed to the vibrant colors of the rain forest, the whole spectrum of blues painting the sky and the gamut of colors glowing from the stars. My life as an artist began as an adolescent. I used colors to express emotions and feelings and captured them in various forms of paintings.
During my formative teenage years, I became a self-taught artist, exploring and mastering techniques and forms that would allow me to capture and blend majestic colours and expressions in my works. During the 1980s, I studied at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Los Andes, where I focussed my studies on English Literature. In 1988, when I moved to Quebec, I honed my painting techniques and explored other forms of art including drawing, contemporary portraiture, colour field and Chinese painting, as well as photography and sculpture. I continued nourishing my desire for learning by participating in workshops offered at the Stewart Cultural Centre in Pointe-Claire. Quebec.
Alongside my formal artistic development, I also developed skills and aptitudes in the practices of traditional healing, combining my artistic abilities with my psychological awareness and communication skills.
During healing practices with individuals experiencing different forms of illness, I was exposed to the darker colors of their pains, sorrows, and fears, as well as the radiant colors of their courage, hope, joy, and perseverance during the healing process. By coupling traditional healing practices with my artistic aptitudes, my new art creations revealed the richness of an expansive expression of Spirit.
While I continue exploring and developing my art in landscapes, contemporary portraits, and collages, I am currently presenting to the public a new series of paintings that I have named “VORTEX.” This idea came to me following a dream where I was simultaneously in two worlds, “here and somewhere else.” This series focuses on the interface where the materials meet, taking on the qualities of the objects around them, such as the floating characteristics of flowers with the life flowing within.

A collection of my paintings has been exhibited in Art Galleries in Oaxaca, Mexico, New York, and Mont St Hilaire, Quebec, and in several collections and exhibitions in Ontario and Quebec since 2006. In 2019, I was awarded the Distinction Award from the Museum of Fine Arts of Mont-Saint-Hilaire for my work, T’hivernes-tu de mon givre blanc. I am also honored to be a three-time recipient of the Luxembourg Art Price certificate for artistic merit, participation, and distinguished perspective.
